Vectored this guy up over the weekend. I was really focusing on getting a rugged hand-drawn look.

Edit: I'm submitting this illustration to this week's Illustration Friday topic "Fleeting". I think it's safe to say this gentleman can't face the fact that his precious hair is "fleeting".

Lady night life

This probably turned out a little more sexy than I intended, but that's alright. I liked how it turned out. Mostly playing with purple and lighting here. I'm going to start contributing to iStockphoto, so this is a piece I'm using for submission.

UPDATE: This week's Illustration Friday topic is "Poise". I looked up "poise" in the dictionary and this is what it read: "Graceful and elegant bearing in a person". I guess that sorta' fits, so I'm submitting it.

Parting of the Red Sea colored

Well, I've been working on this one all week, and I'm not sure if it's done. I thought I'd post it anyways.

UPDATE: I'm submitting this to this week's Illustration Friday topic: "Breezy". A while back I watched a Discovery Channel show that gave a scientific explanation to some of the miracles in the Old Testament. I've always found this stuff very interesting. To me, a scientific explanation to a miracle doesn't make it any less of a miracle. In fact, it only reinforces the miraculousness of God using natural events for His purpose.

However, the particular episode I watched talked about the parting of the Red Sea, and gave an explanation as to how this could have happened naturally. They hypothesized that a large wind (or "breeze") came down and blew the sea down, revealing an underwater ridge, which the Israelites used to cross. I saw a problem when they said that the "breeze" had to be over 100 mph sustained. Wouldn't this blow people into the water (especially children and the elderly)?

I'm not trying to start a debate—only providing an explanation as to why this illustration fits with this week's Illustration Friday topic: "Breezy".

As the week drew to a close, Jeffrey thought he had all the time that the weekend could give. Unfortunately, Mrs. No-fun has different ideas on how Jeffrey should spend his beautiful Saturdays. No exercise for you, little Jeffrey.

Christmas Carolers unite

It is a well-known fact that the Abominable Snowman's mortal enemy is the Christmas Caroler. This bitter feud goes back for hundreds of years. But this year is different. At last, these two powerful groups have united despite their differences—perhaps only for the season. Let's enjoy it while it's here.

UPDATE: I've decided to include this in this week's "Illustration Friday". The topic this week is "Similar". Despite their centuries-old feud these two groups have deep similarities. They both have a strong love for Christmas, egg nog, "The Office", and both are passionately disturbed by the increased commercialism of the holidays. Perhaps these issues are why they have finally moved past their silly differences.

Illustration Friday "Opinion"

It's been a while since my last post so I thought I'd throw up a sketch of Bigfoot from my sketchbook and submit it to this week's "Illustration Friday" topic "Opinion". I've been watching shows recently talking about monster topics like "Bigfoot" or "aliens" or "abominable snowman" and my opinion of these have gone back and forth. But, you know what, it really doesn't matter what my opinion is… either Bigfoot is real or he isn't, and my opinion doesn't change that. But I know what is real, this drawing. It's real.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I'm thankful for pencils which allow me to make drawings like these. And I'm thankful for erasers so I can fix my mistakes. And I'm thankful for my scanner and Photoshop so I get my drawing onto the computer. And I'm thankful for Blogger and the internet which allows me to share my beautiful drawings with the whole world!

And I'm thankful for those who don't take my comments about Bigfoot seriously.

Hot Chocolate Mouse

Here's your typical Christmas illustration depicting a mouse stirring yummy hot chocolate with a candy cane. Mmmmm. I think my last several posts have something to do with food.

Update: I am submitting this illustration to this week's Illustration Friday. The theme is "Pretend". I think it's pretty obvious that we're all pretending that a mouse would actually take the time to stir and savor hot chocolate. I think he would just dive right in (after devouring the candy cane).

New blog look… Again!

Well, I did it again. I got bored and refreshed the design of my blog… again. I just couldn't help it. Hopefully this one will last for more than 3 months. Who knows. I may be playing around with the illustration in the next couple of days so it may change here and there.

The black background really doesn't work well with large amounts of type, so if I decide to start typing more in my blog posts I need something that's easier on the eyes.


Edit: At the last minute I decided to submit it to this week's Illustration Friday. Topic: Island… because, he's kind of on an island, I guess.

First Greeting Birthday Card

It is believed that the first birthday greeting cards ever recorded were not done on paper at all, but actually on stone--done thousands of years ago in caves. Here is a scene depicting the creating of such card.

Maybe I'll post some process screenshots of this one a little later. Right now I'm going to go have some ice cream and brownies covered in chocolate sauce!

EDIT: Because this is a theory I'm submitting it to this week's "Illustration Friday".
